Sarge’s runs a volunteer and foster program that encompasses both the Sarge’s Adoption Center, and the Haywood County Animal Shelter. We also have volunteers that work at PetSmart in Waynesville, providing enrichment, and cleaning the cages of the cats there.   We have various opportunities available for getting involved. At orientation, we will discuss the different roles filled by volunteers, safety precautions, training opportunities, and sign the legal paperwork needed. Get better at knowing what cats want, and how to convince them to do what you want. Sarge’s resident cat expert, Sharon Bolden, will guide students through hands-on cat handling to move cats from one area to another, with a focus on maximizing safety and minimizing stress.   This class is required for volunteers moving cats at the Haywood County Animal Shelter, Sarge’s Animal Rescue Adoption Center, and PetSmart.
